Mallorca - A Naturally Vegan Guide
Exploring the island's traditional dishes that just happen to be vegan
I’ll be the first to admit — I was a little hesitant about visiting Mallorca for a culinary trip. For all its raved-about beauty, as a German, I couldn’t quite ignore its reputation as a hotspot for beer-fountain-seeking crowds from back home. Ballermann and Cala Ratjada, I’m looking at you... Let’s be honest: mass tourism, wherever it hails from, rarely does a place any favours. But after a bit of research, I learned about a very different side to Mallorca — one shaped by forward-thinking food producers and makers who fight to maintain a precious culinary culture. That alone felt like reason enough to give the largest of the Balearic Islands a proper chance. And I’m so glad I did.

When I finally made the trip, I was blown away by the naturally vegan food I could find, not by scanning menus for substitutions, but by simply ordering what Mallorcans have been eating for generations. The island is a small but select treasure trove of plant-based food, where fresh, local ingredients come together in dishes like Tumbet and Sopas Mallorquinas, and where snacks like Coca de Trampó make sure you never go hungry.
From the busy streets of Palma to the steep stone lanes of Valldemossa and the sun-soaked, idyllic corners of the East coast, this is a guide to eating well in Mallorca on a plant-based diet — without ever feeling like you’re missing out on the local food culture.
